Subject-wise Marks Split
The 200 marks are fixed across five areas. Biology dominates at 80 marks; Physics and Chemistry together add 100 marks; the MAT is the remaining 20.
| Subject | Questions | Marks | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Biology — Zoology | 40 | 40 | 20% |
| Biology — Botany | 40 | 40 | 20% |
| Chemistry | 50 | 50 | 25% |
| Physics | 50 | 50 | 25% |
| Mental Agility Test (MAT) | 20 | 20 | 10% |
| Total | 200 | 200 | 100% |
Within biology, the highest-value single area is human biology and physiology. In physics, mechanics and modern physics are the two biggest blocks; in chemistry, physical and organic chemistry dominate. Every one of these chapters is mapped in the complete MECEE-BL syllabus.
Negative Marking Explained
The MECEE-BL is unusual compared to Nepal's other entrances because it penalises wrong answers:
- Correct answer: +1 mark.
- Wrong answer: -0.25 mark (four wrong answers cancel one correct answer).
- Unanswered: 0 — no gain, no penalty.
This changes your strategy. In a no-penalty exam you answer everything; here you answer what you know, narrow down confidently, and only guess when two options can be eliminated. That is exactly why chapter-wise accuracy tracking — knowing which chapters you lose marks in — matters more than raw attempt counts.
Eligibility for the MECEE-BL
General eligibility for undergraduate health-science programmes is based on +2 Science with the right subjects and aggregate:
- +2 Science (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- Minimum aggregate of roughly 50% (GPA about 2.4+), with at least C in each subject in SEE and +2.
- Citizenship (or passport for international applicants) plus SEE and +2 mark sheets for the online form.
Specific cut-offs and requirements vary by programme group (MBBS/BDS vs BSc Nursing vs BPH, for example), so always confirm the exact figures for your programme in the official MEC notice.
Applications and 2027 Dates
For the current cycle, the online portal officially opened at 9:00 AM on Shrawan 25, 2083 (August 10, 2026) and runs through Bhadra 15, 2083 (August 31, 2026, 5:00 PM), followed by a double-fee late window through Bhadra 22, 2083 (September 7, 2026, 5:00 PM). Apply only through the official MEC portal — entrance.mec.gov.np. For the full breakdown of programme groups, eligibility, the NPR 4,000 fee and the reservation split straight from the official notice, read our MECEE-BL 2027 application notice guide — and if you are applying from outside Nepal, see the foreign candidates guide for Sub-category I vs II and the separate October 2 deadline.
Admit cards are published online roughly 5 days before the exam and must be printed in colour. The exam date itself is announced in the official MEC notice — the 2027-cycle notice had not fixed the date at the time of writing, so check the portal rather than relying on rumour.
Where to Start Preparing
You do not need to read everything at once. Follow the path most medical aspirants take:
- Read the syllabus first. The chapter-wise MECEE-BL syllabus shows exactly what is covered in each subject and how many marks it carries.
- Check your eligibility and apply. Confirm your +2 aggregate and submit on the official MEC portal before the deadline.
- Practise chapter by chapter. Start with biology's heavy blocks, keep physics and chemistry consistent, and never skip the MAT.
- Track accuracy, not just attempts. With -0.25 negative marking, your weakest chapters are where you bleed marks — fix them first.
