The MECEE-UG — now officially branded MECEE-BL — distributes its 200 marks by programme group. The MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing group carries Biology 80, Chemistry 50, Physics 50 and MAT 20; the allied-health and BPH groups rebalance Chemistry and Physics to 40 each; and BNS / BMS replaces the science subjects with the PCL nursing curriculum. MECEE-UG and MECEE-BL are the same entrance under different labels — the Commission's common entrance for undergraduate health-science programmes. The subject structure below is the official Group I split — the version most readers sit — and it has not changed with the 2083 syllabus revision:

How the Split Changes by Programme Group

MEC's entrance syllabus curriculum fixes a distinct subject structure for each programme group. Group I is the only one that carries Chemistry and Physics at 50 each. Groups II and III hold Zoology and Botany at 40 each but cut Chemistry and Physics to 40, spending the freed-up 20 marks on programme-specific content. Group IV replaces the science subjects entirely with the PCL nursing curriculum. The Mental Agility Test and the +1 / -0.25 marking rule are constant across every group.

Biology (80 Marks): The Recall Backbone

Biology earns its 40% share because it is the cheapest marks on the paper: mostly direct recall, exactly the content the 1-3-7-30 revision technique is built for. Chemistry (50 Marks): Physical + Organic

Chemistry is the subject where calculation practice converts most directly into marks. Physical and organic chemistry together are 34 of the 50 questions — exactly the two branches where calculation and named-reaction practice convert most directly into marks. Physics (50 Marks): Modern Physics + Mechanics

Physics is the hardest marks to buy on the paper — it rewards timed problem-solving, not memorisation. The table below is the official Group I unit split (50 questions); Groups II and III carry the same units at Modern 10, Mechanics 8, Current electricity & magnetism 7, Heat 6, Waves & optics 6, Electrostatics & capacitors 3 = 40. The strategic point: modern physics and mechanics together are 22 of the 50 questions, so timed practice on those two units is the highest-return use of your physics hours. The MAT strategy guide exists precisely so the 15-minute MAT block cannot eat into the time Physics needs.

MAT (20 Marks): Don't Give It Away

Only 10% of the paper, but it is the cheapest 20 marks available: no syllabus to memorise, just practised speed. MEC's syllabus divides the MAT evenly across four reasoning domains:

Turning Weightage Into a Revision Order

Weightage should drive the order you revise, and your personal weak chapters should then override the default order. The sequence below assumes a Group I, II or III paper; if you sit Group IV (BNS / BMS), swap the science blocks for the nursing core — Community, Adults, Child and Midwifery nursing hold 100 of the 150 core marks. A sensible starting sequence:

  1. Biology first (80 marks). Human Biology & Physiology (15 in Zoology), then Biodiversity, Genetics and Plant Physiology (21 in Botany) — the official heavy units — on the 1-3-7-30 schedule.
  2. Organic + physical chemistry (50 marks). 17 questions each, so nomenclature and reactions beside stoichiometry and equilibrium; practise calculations on a timer.
  3. Modern physics + mechanics (50 marks). 12 + 10 questions — timed numerical sets, since this subject's marks come from solving, not reading.
  4. MAT (20 marks). Ten to fifteen minutes of daily speed work, slotted in rather than scheduled as a subject.

The official split for each programme group was unchanged by MEC's 2083 syllabus revision of April 28, 2026 — Group I stays 80 / 50 / 50 / 20, Groups II and III stay 40 / 40 / 40 / 40 / 20 / 20, and Group IV keeps its core-nursing structure. What the revision adjusted was topic coverage and emphasis, not the subject marks.
