The 200 marks are fixed across five areas. Biology dominates at 80 marks — a full 40% of the paper. Physics and Chemistry together add 100 marks, and the MAT carries the remaining 20.

Your Time Budget
Three hours is 180 minutes for 200 questions. The arithmetic is simple and uncomfortable: 54 seconds per question including OMR bubbling. In practice you will not spend evenly — MAT and Physics calculations eat more time, Biology recall answers are faster. A workable split used by many toppers:

Where to Spend Your Remaining Weeks
Weightage should drive your revision order. With the exam expected around early October 2026 (confirm on the portal), here is where the marks actually live:
- Biology (80 marks) — the priority. Two-thirds of medical aspirants' weak chapters are here, and it is the cheapest marks on the paper: mostly recall. Within it, human physiology and system-based zoology plus plant morphology, reproduction and genetics in botany carry the heaviest question loads in past papers.
- Chemistry (50 marks) — physical and organic dominate. Physical chemistry (stoichiometry, equilibrium, thermodynamics, electrochemistry) and organic (nomenclature, reactions, biomolecules) historically supply the largest blocks. This is the subject where calculation practice converts directly into marks.
- Physics (50 marks) — mechanics and modern physics first. Mechanics and modern physics (atomic structure, semiconductors, dual nature) are the two biggest question sources. Spend your calculation time here, not on rote memorisation.
- MAT (20 marks) — never skip it. It is only 10% of the paper, but it is the cheapest 20 marks available if you practise puzzles, series and mental arithmetic. Many students ignore it and gift those marks to the merit list.
What Changed in the 2027 Syllabus
The syllabus follows the NEB Grade 11 and 12 science curriculum, and MEC revised it on April 28, 2026 (15 Baisakh 2083) — the third official revision. A few practical points:
- Use the 2027 version. If you are using notes or question banks from before 2027, they may carry topics that have moved or been re-weighted.
- Marks structure is unchanged by the revision. The 80/50/50/20 split is the current structure; what the revision adjusted is coverage and topic emphasis.
- Check programme groups. Some groups (e.g. BAMS, BSc MLT, BPH) have pre-requisite or PCL-level health content in place of part of the core science split — confirm your programme's variation in the syllabus.

Question-Type Mix (Unofficial Estimate)
MEC does not publish an official breakdown of question types, so treat the following as an estimate drawn from analysis of recent papers on preparation sites — useful for framing, not an official MEC figure:
